British student, 20, gang-raped by four men on balcony in Thailand after 'boyfriend left her in a bar'

A British student has been gang raped in Thailand after moving there two weeks ago to become an English teacher. The 22-year-old was attacked in the early hours of Saturday morning by four Thai men.

Police said the men were driving around the southern provincial capital of Nakhon Sri Thammarat in a pick-up truck. They snatched their victim as she left a late-night restaurant popular for serving alcohol after-hours.

The young woman, from Scotland, was thought to have been taken to a nearby building where she was repeatedly raped.

Police said the girl was drunk and had been left by a fellow traveller from South Africa, said to be her boyfriend. Both had been advised to leave the bar because of their condition, it was claimed.

The attackers dragged her to a balcony on the second floor of a neighbouring building, where she was found at 5am in tears.

The victim is thought to be from the Scottish Highlands, and was attacked in the southern provincial capital of Nakorn Sri Thammarat.

The student had only arrived two weeks earlier and was waiting to hear if she had been successful after applying for a job as a teacher.

The girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons, had been on holiday in the Southern Provincial capital of Nakorn Sri Thammarat for the past fortnight with her boyfriend.

She had apparently taken a break from studying at university.

Police said the girl had become separated from her boyfriend in the street when they were both refused entry to a late-night restaurant because they had been drinking heavily.

She had earlier been in Rock 99 Bar in Thawang Market before heading to the Nakorn Vientiane Restaurant - popular because it serves after hours drinks.

Police Lt. Col. Niti Boonjan, in charge of the investigation said: ‘She had applied to be a teacher.  

‘She had scratches on her body and she was taken to hospital for forensic tests. She was found crying on the second floor balcony.’
