CCTV camera captures mum giving birth on town centre pavement

A frantic gave birth in the street at a shopping centre as she tried to get to a maternity hospital.
The early morning drama was captured on CCTV in a street close to Kim Leighton’s home.
She hastily removed her trousers on the path in the town centre and warned her worried mum that the baby was imminent.
Kim, 25, said: “I pushed and the baby was in my mum’s arms. The neighbours certainly know about the birth – I made enough noise.”
Mum and baby Leanne were cold but otherwise fine and paramedics were soon on the scene to cut the cord and take the pair to hospital.
The girl, who was 6lb 4oz, has been given the middle name Eden – in honour of the Eden Shopping Centre in High Wycombe, Bucks, where she was born.
When Kim’s waters broke she phoned mum Sue, 54, to drive her to the maternity unit.
Sue and her partner dashed to the flat near the shopping centre and led Kim and her son, Lewis, four, towards the car.
The CCTV images which emerged yesterday show they had only gone a few yards when it was clear it was already too late.
Sue said: “She told me ‘I can feel the baby’. I said ‘Don’t be so stupid – that’s what all pregnant women say’.
"She was adamant so I put my hand down and I could feel the head.”
CCTV operators saw Kim staggering around the town centre and thought she was drunk.
When they realised the truth the security guards hurried to help armed with blankets.
Mum-of-two Kim said she will show Leanne, who was born in October, the amazing CCTV images when she is older.
