Dar auditors want donors to put pressure on govt to be more transparent

Dar es Salaam. Development Partners (DP) and auditing stakeholders have been urged to cooperate with the National Audit Office (Naot) to address inadequate manpower that hinders the fulfilment of its obligations.  The Naot undertakes audit responsibilities with the United Nations (UN) board since July 1, last year, soon after attaining membership to the board.
Upon implementation of its responsibilities, the Naot said 100 auditors had been assigned to undertake UN assignments, something that challenged the implementation and timely delivery of high quality audit reports to the legislature, the executive and the judiciary.
Controller and Auditor General (CAG) office’s obligations give assurance that national resources are properly managed and that the value for money is being established.
“Since, the office enhances accountability, transparency and cost effectiveness in the country’s public sector, development partners and stakeholders are called upon to help address existing challenges,” said Mr MLudovick Utouh.
Mr Utouh was giving remarks in the signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to implement the Sh5 billion of phase II of the National Audit Office Development Project (Naodp) jointly undertaken by the Naot, the Swedish National Audit Office (Snao) and the Swedish International Development Agency (Sida).

According to Mr Utouh, the project’s main objective is to further enhance accountability and financial discipline in public institutions to ensure there is accountability and transparency in the collection and expenditure of public revenue in order to achieve social and economic development.
Giving more details, Mr Utouh said phase III of the project had come after making success in the implementation of phases I and II of the Naodp, whereby the office had passed through tremendous transformation.
